Selection of Nonparametric Methods for Monotonic Trend Detection in Water Quality
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this paper two nonparametric tests for monotonic trend detection are compared with respect to their power and accuracy. The importance of comparing powers at equal empirical signiicance levels rather than nominal levels, is stressed. Therefore, an appropriate graphical method is presented. The eeect of the sampling frequency is also assessed using a trajectory representation that visualizes the dynamics of the trade-oo between the type I and type II errors. These methods are applied to two nonparametrical tests (seasonal Mann-Kendall and modiied seasonal Mann-Kendall) under several conditions. It is concluded for the modiied seasonal Mann-Kendall test applied to the AR(2) process considered in this paper, that it is not worthwhile with respect to the power, to increase the sampling frequency from monthly to biweekly for detecting a monotonic trend of 10% of the process variance. The seasonal Mann-Kendall test is under these conditions, highly liberal. This research is situated in the development of an eecient sampling design for the Flemish water quality monitoring network.

Background and Objective: Drought and water shortage in recent years caused rice farmers to use maximum groundwater as a secure source. However, the rice is affected not only by the quantity but also by the quality of water. The purpose of this study was to evaluate trend of quality parameters of groundwater in wet and dry periods in 4 plains including Astaneh, Talesh, Lahijan and Foumanat, whi...

Introduction: Considering the increasing population and the growing need for food and drinking water, it is essential to explore and understand the factors of crop production, especially water resources. Today, the removal of undiluted water from underground water sources has produced qualitative issues, in addition to a few shortcomings. These issues are more significant in arid and semi-arid ...

Identification of trend and drought characteristics play an important role in the development and management of water resources. In this study, the spatio-temporal characteristics of SPEI index in short, medium, long and annual scales (SPEI3, SPEI6 and SPEI9) in Urmia Lake basin were investigated. for this purpose, temperature and precipitation data from 4 synoptic stations of Tabriz, Urmia,...
متن کاملNonparametric Estimation of Spatial Risk for a Mean Nonstationary Random Field}
The common methods for spatial risk estimation are investigated for a stationary random field. Because of simplifying, lets distribution is known, and parametric variogram for the random field are considered. In this paper, we study a nonparametric spatial method for spatial risk. In this method, we model the random field trend by a local linear estimator, and through bias-corrected residuals, ...
